After completing her apprenticeship as a bank clerk at Landesbank Berlin, Birgit Ludwig earned her Diploma in Business Administration from the Free University of Berlin and a Master of Science in Money, Banking & Finance from the University of Birmingham before joining J.P. Morgan in London in 2004 in the operational area of investment banking.
From 2007 to 2025, Birgit worked at BlackRock in various business areas and at several international locations. She started her career there in London in change and business management roles before assuming the responsibility of Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the European Multi-Asset Investment Team in 2015. In 2019, she was appointed Regional COO for Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe and joined the Executive Committee of BlackRock Asset Management Deutschland AG in Frankfurt. In 2023, she moved to Zurich, where she acted as COO and Member of the Executive Committee of BlackRock Switzerland, with additional responsibility as COO for Continental Europe.
Birgit has been Chief Operating Officer since 1 January 2026 and a member of the Executive Committee of Swiss Life Asset Managers in this capacity.
