Detailed presentation of the methodology for selecting the award winners for Gestion de Fortune and Quantalys
The methodology defined by Gestion de Fortune and Quantalys in 2014 is as follows:
- The aim of the selection: To find funds which have outperformed over the long term while avoiding the major market reversals in the summer of 2011.
- Funds are selected based on their 5-year Sortino index. This is similar to the Sharpe index but substitutes DSR (down side risk) for global volatility in the denominator. DSR is volatility measured solely when the market performance is bearish (i.e. below a certain value, in this case the performance of Eonia). In other words, to recognise that volatility (the variation of a security around its average value) only becomes a problem when value is falling.
- Moreover, consistent with the aim of honouring funds that are resilient in bear markets, only those funds whose maximum drawdown over five years was less than average for their category are eligible.
Performances were counted up to 30 September 2014.
